From Outer Space to the Indian River Lagoon to Your Backyard: The Nanobubble Technology Inside Jacuzzi True Water

Technology from a NASA-approved research pilot on space farming — and now cleaning up the Indian River Lagoon right here on the Space Coast — is quietly at work inside the Jacuzzi hot tubs on our showroom floor in Melbourne. It’s called nanobubble technology, and it’s changing what clean water means.

Nanobubbles suspended in water

What Is a Nanobubble?

A nanobubble is a bubble of gas less than 200 nanometers across — about 2,500 times smaller than a grain of table salt. Because they’re so tiny, they don’t rise and pop like ordinary bubbles. They stay suspended in water for days, even months, acting like microscopic batteries that continuously release oxygen throughout the entire body of water.

The company that pioneered this at scale is Moleaer, based in California. Their patented generators are now deployed in more than 10,000 systems across 55+ countries, treating everything from fish farms and wastewater plants to irrigation systems.

Tested in NASA-Approved Space-Farming Research

Utah State University was one of five teams selected for a NASA-approved research pilot on growing fresh food for long space missions — and Moleaer was chosen as the technology provider. In microgravity, water doesn’t drain from plant pots, so roots drown. Moleaer’s nanobubbles oxygenate the root zone directly, addressing one of the hardest problems in space farming. As USU’s Dr. Bruce Bugbee put it, the technology “could be a game-changer for overcoming our irrigation challenges in space.”

Cleaning Up Our Own Backyard: The Indian River Lagoon

You don’t have to leave the Space Coast to see nanobubbles at work. In February 2026, the City of Titusville launched a pilot project installing Moleaer’s nanobubble system at the Titusville Municipal Marina to treat muck and improve water quality in the Indian River Lagoon. Florida Tech and Brevard County Natural Resources are conducting the scientific monitoring to measure the results. The city kicked it off with an event literally called “Flip the Switch from Green to Clean.”

Jacuzzi True Water versus traditional and salt water care systems

Now Soak In It: Jacuzzi True Water

Here’s the part that matters for your backyard. Jacuzzi partnered directly with Moleaer to build nanobubble technology into a new generation of spas — Jacuzzi True Water. Trillions of oxygen-filled nanobubbles, each 5,000 times smaller than a grain of sand, circulate invisibly through the water, surrounding and scrubbing away microscopic contaminants — not just in the water, but on the spa’s surfaces, plumbing lines, and waterline.

What that means in plain English:

  • Up to 99.9999% chlorine-free. According to Jacuzzi’s lab testing, True Water removes 99.9% of bacterial and viral contaminants without heavy chlorine or bromine. No chemical smell, no dried-out skin.
  • About 15 minutes of maintenance a month. Traditional spas demand weekly testing and chemical balancing. Jacuzzi reports True Water needs roughly 15 minutes a month — then you just soak.
  • Cleaner water, longer. Nanobubbles keep water fresher for longer stretches, meaning fewer water changes and less fuss.

True Water comes standard on the J-LX and J-400 collections and is available on J-300 models.
